Some things that have already happened: ZAPP/David Eugene Edwards - Tom has orchestrated a few charts from artist David Eugene Edwards. These (and other cool tunes) were performed with the ZAPP String Quartet. More info on David Eugene Edwards Seahorse/Magogo Orkest - Seahorse (Hippocampus), a new original piece by Tom - for string orchestra - was premiered by Arjan Tien's Magogo Orchestra. The program (Monet's Gardens) was a beautiful evening of "Impressionist" sounds (a term coined from a Monet paining, by the way). Tom also orchestrated "Gare St. Lazare," a cello feature from composer Eddy Koopman. This piece is absolutely beautiful and was premiered the same night. Fond Merkies - Tom conducted the Metropole Orkest sessions for the soundtrack to the TV series "Zoutvloed," composed by huge Dutch composer Fons Merkies. If you're Dutch, check your TV listings. Steve Vai/(Visual) Sound Theories - The newest album/DVD from Grammy-Award winning artist Steve Vai features orchestration work by Tom! Be sure to rush out to your local record shop. You can find more information on Vai's news page... Bryan Beller - Tom wrote a chart for Bryan Beller's second solo album "Thanks In Advance!" The track is called "Casual Lie Day." Bryan is an amazing bass player who has played for years with Steve Vai and Mike Keneally. Proper info at Beller's site. Den Helder -Tom has orchestrated the film "Den Helder" from director Jorien van Nes. Music from composer Bram Meindersma, known for lots of Dutch TV and film work... Look for this sometime soon on the Dutch side. -Mike Keneally/ZAPP String Quartet - Tom has adapted a new Mike Keneally string quartet, "Gita Minor" from audio into a readable format for the ZAPP String Quartet. The piece is currently touring Holland (and neighboring countries!), and is featured on ZAPP's new CD, "Peculiar." Check out Mike's site HERE. Check out ZAPP's site HERE. -Henry Mancini/Ricciotti Ensemble - Tom has arranged the Henry Mancini tune "Mr. Lucky" for the Ricciotti Ensemble and this piece is currently touring. Check the Ricciotti website for performance details. -Budapest/Zappa/MAO - Tom arranged and conducted a concert for The Modern Art Orchestra, from Budapest, Hungary. This was part of a Frank Zappa festival. Ex-Zappa bandmates Ed Mann and Mike Keneally were featured, and the mayor of Budapest was also in the house. A good dude named Bálint from Hungary email-interviewed Tom about the experience HERE. Dig on the interview in Hungarian! --- Modern Art Orchestra -Harrij de Waij - The new CD, "It's Hard To Say Goodbye" from Harrij de Waij's Early Grey Band features string arrangements from Tom played by the Quintet Quinetique. Harrij is a very imaginative songwriter with a feel for the classics. Honest music performed well. -Games In Concert II - Tom has once again written Games in Concert music with Martin Fondse for the Metropole Orkest! This year was of course bigger and better, conducted by the Video Game composer Laura Karpman (Everquest)... Check out Gamer.nl for information, reviews, and other gaming stuff. To read some things about last year, check out the page with past projects... -Raymzter/Ennio Morricone - Tom has orchestrated for Dutch Rapper Raymzter. This was part of the B-Oost Festival in Holland, this year celebrating the music of Ennio Morricone, and Raymzter's premiere adaptation was called "Melancholisch." Hopefully more work with Raymzter to come!
-Al Wilson/Cole Porter/Ricciotti Ensemble - Tom has arranged Al Wilson's hit "The Snake" and Cole Porter's tune "Well, Did You Evah?" for the Ricciotti Ensemble for 2 consecutive tours. Check out Ricciotti HERE. -Absolute Ensemble/Napoleon Murphy Brock - Tom orchestrated Napoleon Murphy Brock's piece PATIENCE, for Kristjan Jarvi's Absolute Ensemble for touring! This ensemble is frighteningly talented. The original piano version of PATIENCE can be heard on the Balls album - Tom transcribed and arranged all music for this album. Also performed on guitar, keyboards, bass, drums, flute, and saxophone on the album with Chester Thompson and Mike Keneally. Click here to buy the CD...
Tom instructs the audience on the art of vomiting on cue at the Bogus Pomp Orchestra show in Tampa, FL (photo: Joan McHale) -The Florida Orchestra - Commissioned to write 22 original orchestrations of Frank Zappa music for the Florida band Bogus Pomp, and the Florida Orchestra. Tom conducted the orchestra at these concerts. This concert was voted BEST CONCERT IN FLORIDA by The Weekly Planet and BEST ENSEMBLE IN FLORIDA by the St.Petersburg Times! -Steve Vai/The Metropole Orkest (The Netherlands) - 2 years in a row, orchestrated Vai's music for The Aching Hunger and The Aching Hunger II concerts. Concerts in July, 2005 recorded for CD and DVD release. More info to follow or on VAI.COM. Tom has also orchestrated other pieces for Steve, including a special piece for Metro guitarist Pieter Tiehuis called "Oil of Smoke." -Games In Concert I - The Metropole Orkest and Gamer.nl teamed up to offer "Games in Concert." This is exactly what it sounds like - music from video games being played live with an orchestra, while the images play on a video screen. Tom and top Dutch arranger Martin Fondse (has his own website by this link) have orchestrated the music, and you can find Tom and Martin's interview about it here (Dutch). It was conducted by Christopher Lennertz, a video game composer from Los Angeles. Don Preston for a series of concerts celebrating this pioneer keyboardist - PARKPOP Festival - Kijk uit! Tom and amazing Dutchman Willem Friede have written for a few dangerous rap groups from the Hague - the NuClear Family, El. Rod, Perry Mystique, and Nedertoon. Check out Nuclear Family. Also orchestrations for Holland's Metropole Orkest for concert performances, including another fantastic, yet unrecorded piece - It's called 4S, and it's a companion piece to "The Universe Will Provide," Keneally's premiere piece with the Metropole 2 years ago, nicely orchestrated by Chris Opperman. -The Grandmothers - Transcribing and arranging charts for European tours SEZEN AKSU!
30 January 2007 - Rotterdam, Netherlands - Tom Trapp, Sezen Aksu, Martin Fondse, Yaso Romero Fernandes after the super sold-out crowd for Sezen at De Doelen in Rotterdam Martin Fondse and Tom wrote for the goddess of Turkish pop, SEZEN AKSU! Sezen has more than 400 compositions to her name and more than 40 million albums sold! With 2 sold-out shows in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, it was a great opening to the Turkey Now! festival. Even the mayor of Amsterdam spoke at the premiere! A personal thank you to all the managers and musicians of Sezen for a great experience!
